According to The Public Relation Office of the Science and Research Branch, the primary focus of ASAIHL Meeting this year will be on  the “Role of private and non-profit universities in expansion and improvement of higher education”, while   the three secondary aims  will be  the  “Education methods impacts on higher education”, “Development and enhancement of curriculum quality with new approaches in higher education” and  the Study  of educational methods of special fields in higher education”.

The Association of Southeast Asian Institutions of Higher Learning (ASAIHL) is a non-governmental organization founded in 1956 in Bangkok, with the aim of developing higher education and raising education quality.

ASAIHL has 240 member institutions including Iran, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Australia, Vietnam, Brunei, Singapore, Philippines, Cambodia, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Eastern Timor, Poland, Belgium, Canada, France, United Kingdom, New Zealand, Sweden and America.

The major  goals of ASAHIL are: Supporting and exchanging the best experience about the role of higher education institutions in enhancing international skills, collecting and proposing research activities in order to develop regional higher educations, striving for the progress of the member universities, conducting international conferences, exchange of professors and students by concluding cooperation agreements on specific projects, organizing educational courses in member universities and providing advisory services to members .

The then President of the Islamic Azad University was elected as the Chairperson of the ASAHIL Board of Trustees in 2016, being the first chair outside east Asian region.
