A new generation of catalysts has been discovered by a researcher at Islamic Azad University, Science and Research Branch, for the first time in the world

An Iranian Researcher at the Islamic Azad University, Science and Research Branch (SRB), at Tehran, has found a new catalyst from the Caspian Sea's macroalgae Cladophora as a renewable resource for the very first time in the world

Farid Safari, a graduate of  Renewable Energy Engineering, and the outstanding researcher of the 2015-2016 academic year at SRB, stated that "this project was focusing on the hydrogen production from biomass while within the experiments, the solid residue of the process was tested and analyzed. The results showed that the char remained after hydrothermal gasification of Cladophora, is porous with regular pore matrix on its surface and is rich in inorganic compounds including alkali and alkaline earth metals which promises its utilization as a catalyst for promoting hydrogen production from biomass."

This work was performed with cooperation of Omid Norouzi, student at University of Tehran, and conducted under the supervision of Dr. Ahmad Tavasoli, Professor at Science and Research Branch of Islamic Azad University, and University of Tehran.

The Results of this study has been published in Bioresource technology, one of the most well-known journals in the field of bioengineering.
